History
A Fukushima Museum bulletin describes Tsuchiyu Onsen in Fukushima City as one of the three main birthplaces of kokeshi, alongside Naruko and Tōgatta. The first maker is said to have been Sakuma Kamegorō of the Minatoya, around 1800. Tsuchiyu-style kokeshi were also made in Fukushima City, Iizaka Onsen, Dake Onsen, Kawamata and Haramachi.
