How we work

Editorial Policy

Trust comes from showing the limits of a record as clearly as its findings.

Source order

We begin with museums, public bodies and official organisations; then academic and specialist work; then makers and workshops speaking for themselves. News and commercial pages can add context but do not carry historical claims alone.

Facts, interpretations and unknowns

The site separates direct evidence, attributed interpretation and editorial inference. Unknown fields stay empty or display Research in Progress.

People and quotations

We do not invent makers, biographies, quotations, workshop access or social links. Interview text requires a traceable conversation and publication permission.

Corrections

Material corrections will update the reviewed date and, when useful, retain a short note explaining what changed and why.

Images and AI

Rights, credit and licence information travel with every image record. Generated imagery will never be presented as a documentary photograph of a real person, workshop or event.
